Who Am I?
Most folks call me Lisa Minney, but I sign official documents with Lisa Hayes Minney because I never dropped my maiden name. You can call me Lisa.
I live in Stumptown, W.Va. on a farm by a small lake.
But I’d rather be somewhere in a tent in the woods or wandering along a mountain trail.
For the past 4 years, I’ve been working at a weekly newspaper in Central West Virginia. In addition to news pieces, I have my own weekly column, “Off The Cuff.”
For the past 11 years, I’ve worked in education, community development, marketing, copywriting, public relations, web design … And anything else that combined what I love (writing) and what I need (income).
I can write about anything, but I especially love festivals, hiking, saving money, the writing life, life-long learning, creativity and women’s issues. I cover small town news, events and attractions every day.
We travel with two digital cameras, a 33 mm camera, two zoom lenses and three filters. Frank, my husband, usually carries the 35mm. He’s afraid I’ll drop it.
In travel writing my specialty is a neighborly presentation of clean facts that presents information and details in a story-like but straight-forward manner. I have extensive knowledge of traveling with pets, West Virginia State Parks, four-season camping, geocaching and hiking, and budget travel.
I’m a proud West Virginia Press Assocation member and Glenville State College graduate. I am also The Butterfly General, ring leader for the local annual women’s retreat, and vice-president of the Minney Family Reunion Committee.
